Week 13 Storytell: Owen O' Mulready

Image
There once was a man named Owen O'Mulready. Mulready lived an unfortunate life where he was isolated far in the forest with only a husband/wife as his companions. He served as their full-time servant because he had committed a crime and was cursed to live in the isolated forest for the rest of his life.  One night as he was tossing and turning in his sleep he dreamed of a plan that would help him escape the forest. He dreamed that one day they would receive a visitor that had also had magical powers. This visitor would have the ability to magically have Owen disappear from the forest. Once the visitor arrived he would only do this on one condition that if he transported Owen back into the city where he could interact with other people he would be the sorcerors servant two times a week.  Owen gladly agreed to this.  Once Owen woke up the next morning he recalled the dream he had the night before hoping that it would come through. Later that day they r...

Week 13 Reading Notes: The Arrival of the Dragon

Image
The Arrival of the Dragon Bibliography: Beowulf unit. Story source: The Story of Beowulf by Strafford Riggs with illustrations by Henry Pitz (1933). Link to Story I think that if I was to retell this story I would completely disregard everything. Like I have said before I am not a fan of any of the stories in this unit. They are not interesting to me and I find it hard to be creative about them. I think that I would write a story about the Beowulf and the Dragon. There was a show on MTV about a teenage werewolf so it would be kind of cool to write a story about two creatures a dragon and a wolf who were humans most of the time but had the ability to change into a werewolf or dragon. I would just write about a time where their human emotions were set off and they turned into their alter egos. After that happen they had people who were trying to hunt them down.  Warewolf

Week 13 Growth Mindset Mantra

Image
My Mantra   I really like this Mantra because I think when we are going through a hard time in our lives and we look for our strength in other people. In reality when we are struggling it is important to note that in order to get through it we need to look within ourselves to find strength. No one else is going to be able to give enough advice to get us through something we have to choose to use our strength from within to get through challenges.

Week 13 Learning Challenge Deskercise Update

Image
Deskercise Update This week I tried to incorporate more stretching into my school routine and work routine. I stand up for most of the day while I am at work and sit for most of the day at school. I found that if I stretched my back and rolled my shoulders more at work I did not get as tight throughout the day. During school, I found that walking around between classes and moving and stretching a bit throughout classes allowed for me not to become as tight. I also think it is important to sit up straight during school so that my back does not start hurting.  Yoga

Week 13 Tech Tip: Canvas Notifications

Image
Canvas Notifications  One of the main benefits of Canvas is that you can setup what type of notifications you want. I have mine set up to get a weekly summary, notifications when my teachers grade something, or when an assignment is posted on my different class pages. I think that this is very helpful because I can be more alert and aware of what is going on in my classes, because after all sometimes we all get caught up and become forgetful. Canvas

Week 13 Reading Notes: How Cormac Mac Art went to Faery

Image
How Cormac Mac Art went to Faery Bibliography: Celtic Fairy Tales (2) unit. Story source: More Celtic Fairy Tales by Joseph Jacobs with illustrations by John D. Batten (1895). Link to Story The Celtic tales for me have not been as interesting compared to the other readings we were required to read. I think for this story I would use the general idea of the storyline but that is it. My direction if I was to retell the story would be to have Cormac still go and search for his wife and daughter but he would have the assistance of a fairy to get them back. Although from my understanding of the story he found them they were not able to come back with him and no one believed him that he found them. In my story, I would have Cormac find his family and be able to take them back home but no one would believe that a fairy helped him. Fairy

Week 13 Reading Notes A: Dream of Owen O'Mulready

Image
A Dream of Owen O'Mulready Bibliography: Celtic Fairy Tales (2) unit. Story source: More Celtic Fairy Tales by Joseph Jacobs with illustrations by John D. Batten (1895). Link to Story For this story, I think it would be fun to have Owen travel in time to a different destination since he is just stuck working and only lives with two other people. I think I would change the storyline to Owen having a dream of escaping and through the dream, he is able to experience a different city. Throughout, the dream he thinks of a real idea of how he can escape and be able to live with other people. The original storyline was a little boring to me. In the end, I think I would have him attempt to start his escape plan before the story ends.
