Week 12 Review: Cat Memes

Image
Review This week my favorite announcement was made on Wednesday, November 8th. I really liked the growth mindset cat meme. I think that the meme "obstacles will teach you to leap higher" is very powerful because instead of having obstacles get you down we should use them as encouragement to do better next time. In life we are always going to have obstacles but it is how we deal with them that says a lot about our character. I have included an image of another cat meme that I really like. I think the meme I included is really relocatable to the obstacles image because we have to push ourselves to leap higher and get out of our comfort zones.  Cat Meme

Famous Last Words: Can't Wait For Thanksgiving

Image
As the end of the semester is approaching I am finding it harder to motivate myself. But let's be honest I am a senior and have had a hard time motivating myself in general. As Thanksgiving is approaching I am trying to get as much done beforehand because I know after break brings the stress of last minute projects and studying to make good grades in all of my classes. I think every student feels this as we are approaching the end of the semester. I think all I can do is focus on recuperating at Thanksgiving so that I can come back and finish out the semester strong.  I am looking forward to going home and spending time with my family but most importantly my sister. I am going to go to the new movie "Wander" or something like that with her. She is 10 so it is nice to come home over breaks and see her since I feel like I have missed a lot of milestones in her life while being at school. I am also excited for all of the food that comes along with Thanksgiving. We always ...

Week 12 Reading Part A: Arthur In the Cave

Image
Arthur In the Cave Bibliography: Welsh Fairy Tales unit. Story source: The Welsh Fairy Book by W. Jenkyn Thomas with illustrations by Willy Pogány (1908). Link to Story I like this story because I this story because from what I can remember in high school we read stories with King Arthur. I am pretty sure they were in the Canterbury Tales because I remember reading about the roundtable. Again, that was a long time ago but I still recall doing projects with King Arthur. This story reminds me of Sleeping Beauty because like King Arthur the princes was sleeping and was never going to wake up unless it was done by that of her true love. Instead of being woken up by a lover in this story King Arthur was woken up by someone ringing the bell. I think if I was to retell this story I would focus more on adding detail about the sorcerer who clearly did not want to have King Arthur wake up from his deep sleep. Maybe add more detail about what he did to try to stop that.   ...

Week 12 Growth Mindset: Cats on Pinterest

Image
I think that all of the cat growth mindset pictures were hilarious. They were all very light-hearted but had a good meaning associated with them. My favorite one was the "study hard and then take a break. I always find myself having to take multiple breaks when I am studying. I will set benchmarks for where I need to get to in my studies before I can take a break.  Cat 1 Cat 2 Cat 3

Learning Challenge Week 12: 6 Yoga Exercises

Image
Deskercise: 6 yoga Exercises You Won't Be Embarrassed to do At Your Desk Stretching is a very important habit we all need to incorporate into our everyday lives. It is especially important when you are sitting at a desk for hours on end. After reading the article I really liked the neck stretch, shoulder rolls, and open chest stretch. For me, I think the open chest stretch is most beneficial as my back often gets tight. I even enjoy doing that stretch after working out. I think if we forget to stretch it will cause a lot of issues for us when we get older. It prevents us from getting tight since some jobs do require you to sit all day.  Stretching

Week 12 Tech Tip: Browser Bookmarks

Image
Browser Bookmarks Throughout college, I have always used bookmarks because I found it difficult to remember web address for my online books and other resources I have to use for class. Before every semester I always delete the bookmarks off of my bookmarks toolbar and replace them with new ones that I will need to use this semester. I then will name each tab the class that I will use the link for. Other tabs, I have are one fro Canvas, my OU email, and work sites that I need to access. I like keeping tabs on my important websites because it is much less of a hassle than typing in the web address.   Bookmarks

Week 12 Story: The King's Disguise and Friendship with Robin Hood

Image
The King's Disguise and Friendship with Robin Hood Bibliography: Robin Hood unit. Story Source: The English and Scottish Popular Ballads by Francis James Child (1882-1898).  Link to Story Robin Hood was always a mischievous fellow. He never committed crimes that were too terrible, but he often got on the nerves of the king. One day the king decided that he was going to disguise himself as a messenger and meet Robin Hood in the woods. As soon as the king found out where Robin Hood was he immediately went into disguise and created a message that he could tell Robin Hood. He decided that he was going to come up with a story that the King wanted to meet him and invite Robin Hood to dinner.  The king left the castle to go on his adventure to find Robin Hood. It took him a lot longer than anticipated as the king was not used to having to do things on his own. Eventually, he was able to find Robin Hood and was excited to relay the message to Robin Hood....

Week 12 Reading Notes Part B: The King's Disguise and Friendship with Robin Hood

Image
The KIng's Disguise and Friendship with Robin Hood  Bibliography: Robin Hood unit. Story Source: The English and Scottish Popular Ballads by Francis James Child (1882-1898). Link to Story The Robin Hood stories are a bit different from other ones that I have read just because of the way they are written. The language and format are very different. If I was to retell this one I would go in the direction that the king dressed up in order to catch Robin Hood and stop him from doing any more mischievous tricks. I would keep it very similar to the original story but change the language so it is easier for the reader to understand. In the end just like he always does Robin Hood will escape from the king's trickery.  Robin Hood

Week 12 Reading Part A: Robin Hood

Image
Allen and Dale Bibliography: Robin Hood unit. Story source: The English and Scottish Popular Ballads by Francis James Child (1882-1898). Link to Story After going through the different stories in this section I found that I recognize the majority of them. Even though I knew most of the stories pretty well I had a harder time thinking of an original idea for my version of the story. Maybe this is because I am so used to how the stories were originally written that my creativity is limited.  If I was to rewrite this story I think I would base it on the movie " Wedding Crashers" because in that story Robin Hood being the trickster he crashes a wedding. In my story, I would have him crash the wedding and still keep the same storyline that he impersonates the musician as the wedding. I would also have someone as his sidekick to dress up as the minister.  In the end, I would still have the wedding turn out to a happy memory but along the way the bride does notice Robin Hoo...
