Week 11 Growth Mindset: Sharing the Mindset

Sharing the Mindset

I choose to have the conversation of growth mindset with my roommate Holli. When I mention the term growth mindset to her she did not really have any idea what I meant. I choose to go into more detail on the information I learned in the growth mindset assignment we did in the beginning of the semester. I told her about the mantra "the power of yet." I explained to her that I really liked this mantra because I think it reminds us that we all of the power to succeed at something and that we should not let failures limit potential opportunities and achievements. I then went into relating this mantra to school, because Holli sometimes struggles with letting her failures in school get to her. I told her that it is important to have a growth mindset because this may help her not to be so fixated if she does not do well on an assignment and instead she should focus on what she should be doing to improve. After having this conversation with her she said it was really helpful because she said that sometimes she focuses so much on one failure that she does not end up allocating time on the next assignment because she already has the mindset that it will end up like the previous failure.

  1. I think its so cool that you chose to talk about growth mindset with other people. It really is a neat and helpful tactic that can contribute a great deal to one's success. I feel like many people wouldn't understand that a simple "mindset" could do so much with respect to one's success. Also, I think its great that you've found a mantra that helps support and promote the idea. Many times, I feel like Growth Mindset can be sort of tough to grasp. However, when you find a mantra that makes it make sense, it becomes more concrete. Overall, I think you gave advice. I used to do a lot of chemistry tutoring and gave similar suggestions.
