Week 3 Story

Los Angeles, Californa is home to many A-list celebrities whom all are extremely beautiful and very well dressed, but in the hidden hills of Hollywood, there were three women whose beauty exceeded that of everyone. Anytime the three women would make an appearance on Rodeo drive everyone would be so mesmerized by them, but one of them stuck out more than the other two and her name was Venus.

Psyche skin glimmered when the sunlight beamed down on her and she had the most graceful walk that even if you had no idea who she was you would stop and stare. Psyche had over 90 million Instagram followers and the most artistic pictures. She was internationally known and everyone wanted to be her.

Although most people would just talk about how jealous they were of Psyche there was one person who could physically not stand her presence. Her name was Venus. For the longest time, Venus was the one who would be considered the 'show stopper' but as time went on and Psyche became more popular Venus' Instagram followers flat lined and so did her recognition while she was out in Hollywood. As Venus started to lost her fame her anger grew and grew. Venus eventually decided that it was time with her to come up with a plan that would put her back on top.

After finally having enough of it Venus decided she would have to seek revenge on Psyche. Her son Cupid was a technology wiz. He could crack any code or security system. Venus' plan was to have her son hack Psyche's account and began posting negative material about her.  Venus also had Cupid hack popular entertainment sights like E! News, Entertainment Tonight, and People to publish articles about Venus and negative articles about Psyche.

As Cupid began to do this he started to fall in love with how beautiful Psyche was. He loved how her smile was as bright as the sun and that her eyes glimmered when she looked in the sunlight. Instead of doing what his mom said he just would makeshift an article to make it look like he had destroyed her image and brand.

Cupid began to track Psyches every move and eventually got the courage to introduce himself. It was like love at first sight between the two. As time went by Venus eventually discovered what Cupid had been doing and she demanded a meeting between the three.

She demanded that in order for the two to be together Psyche would have to delete her Instagram account and not go out in the public eye too often. If she did not Venus would have to send her son Cupid to the depths of the rainforest never to be married to Psyche.  Venus never thought Psyche would be able to accomplish this, but indeed she was able to.

Finally, Venus was back on top again and she gave her blessing for Cupid and Psyche to get married. In the end, everyone got what they wanted and Psyche realized that being popular to the public is not as important as her love for Cupid. Although, Venus was eventually able to be the star of social media she too realized that family and love trump fame.

Authors Note: I based my story on the story about Cupid and Psyche. Although I left out a lot of details my goal was to write more about the main idea of the story with a present day twist on it.I choose to use the same names to hopefully help with the idea I am trying to get across. I think the lesson in both my story and the original story is that giving up materialistic things like beauty for love is more admirable than just being concerned with what other people think about your image. I really enjoyed writing this story because I felt as if it is so relatable.  In this day-and-age people become so concerned with how many likes or comments their photos are getting and it beats at peoples self-esteem if they are not on top. In the end though all that matter is family and love because things like Instagram followers are only temporary. Although one would hope that a potential mother-in-law would not be jealous of her daughter-in-law I think the story is relatable in that sense as well because mother's do not always think that anyone is good enough for their son's. Overall, the two morals I was trying to portray were to not be concerned with being liked by other's and that family is the only thing that will always be there.

  1. Hi Alanna,
I like the setting you put this story in. The Greek gods have always seemed terribly mortal to me, so making them into jealous celebrities is quite realistic. I also enjoyed how you ended the story, as it just made Psyche all the more likeable. An interesting twist would be if a journalist or someone discovered this story and made Psyche even more popular in the end.

  2. Hey Alanna! I also did one of my stories about Cupid, Venus, and Psyche, but I focused mine more on Cupid and Psyche! I liked how you brought it into modern times with Instagram and all that! I thought it was so clever! And I loved that they got their happy ending, and even Venus was happy in the end.

  3. I really like the idea of the modern twist, you managed to incorporate the theme of appreciated beauty that is found in mythology and making it realistic. I agree that many are now consumed by the number of followers one has. I’m glad that Venus’ mindset changed at the end, it ends the story on a nice note. I enjoyed reading this story, keep up the good work!
