Reading Part A: Arabian Nights

Reading Part A: The Arabian Nights' Entertainments by Andrew Lang and illustrated by H. J. Ford (1898). The Parrot and the Ogress

 After reading the short stories in the Arabian Nights Part A section  I think I want to focus on the story about the Parrot and the Ogress. The direction that I may go for my storytelling is to have the husband actually find out that what his wife did to the parrot. I may make the "punishment" she did to the parrot more relatable to situations now versus the ones given in the story. I did not really like how the wife punished the bird but I think maybe I can tie it to a bigger moral of the story being that the wife was jealous of the parrot or that she was mentally insane.

Links to video:  Video 1 Video 2 I think mental health issues are often disregarded and deemed as stupid or not important. I actually know Ivey Dyson and when you meet her she has a very positive energy and you would never know she suffers from anxiety. I think that is the biggest reason why people disagreed it because oftentimes your peers have no idea what you are suffering from a mental health issue because we choose to hide it from society. Although it takes time for us to want to share about our struggles once you do you realize that you are only helping someone else who may share the same struggle and if anyone makes fun of you then they have something they are hiding and are jealous that they do not have the guts to share it. I love what Ivey said about learning to live with her anxiety. Week 13 Reading Notes: The Arrival of the Dragon

The Arrival of the Dragon Bibliography: Beowulf unit. Story source: The Story of Beowulf by Strafford Riggs with illustrations by Henry Pitz (1933). Link to Story I think that if I was to retell this story I would completely disregard everything. Like I have said before I am not a fan of any of the stories in this unit. They are not interesting to me and I find it hard to be creative about them. I think that I would write a story about the Beowulf and the Dragon. There was a show on MTV about a teenage werewolf so it would be kind of cool to write a story about two creatures a dragon and a wolf who were humans most of the time but had the ability to change into a werewolf or dragon. I would just write about a time where their human emotions were set off and they turned into their alter egos. After that happen they had people who were trying to hunt them down.  Warewolf

Week 7 Story

In the town Cabul lived the daughter of an esteemed aristocrat. His daughter Zerah was one of the most beautiful women in the entire city. Her eyes were sparking, her teeth were pearly white, and on top of that she had a wonderful personality that drew everyone to her.  Zerah was always the talk of the town. She had men trying to court her from cities both near and far. Even when she was in the comfort of her own home she would constantly have men come to her door in attempts to win her heart. Eventually, Zerah became so fed up with men constantly chasing her she decided she was going to go on a much needed vacation.  Zerah packed up her belongings and told her father she was going to be gone for a few weeks. Her father was worried about her safety so he sent two men with her to protect her along her journey.
