Topic Brainstorm

Topic #1 OU Ghost Stories
I think every OU student has always wondered if in particular the library was haunted. Personally, when I am in the higher levels of the library where each level seems a little mysterious especially the untouched book shelves. I do not really have much knowledge about ghosts in particular, but I have heard more about some of the legends on campus. For an example, if you walk under the clock tower and look up you will not graduate on time. I think it would be fun to write a story about a group of students who are forever locked in the library or what happens when you look up at the clock tower before you graduate.

Topic #2 Sea Monsters/Mermaids
Growing up I was always intrigued by the ocean. I loved that there are limitless opportunities, especially with sea creatures. My favorite animal is a Dolphin and I always imagined that they lived this alternate life under the sea that we have no idea about. I might choose to write more about mermaids and incorporate sea monsters. I don't really know much information, but I did read the Odyssey in high school and that book was very graphic when explaining sea creatures. I think in high school we actually wrote a storybook of our own based off of the Odyssey.

Topic #3 Italian Myths
The Italian culture has always been very intriguing to me. I think it could be fun to research more and write a story based on stories that happen in Venice, Italy. When I visited there it was so different than any other city I have visited and I think it is the perfect setting considering the city is on water. I like the carnival time during Mardi Gras where everyone wears masks and there are festivals all over the city. I could see myself writing about maybe college students that visited and had an adventure similar to one that may have happened centuries ago.
Topic #4 Hawaiian Mythology
My favorite place in the world to visit in Hawaii. Any island that you go to is magnificent. One of my favorite islands is Kuahi. Last time I was there we went to a luau where they told us a story about how the Hawaiian man asked for the "kings" daughters hand in marriage. I do not remember all of the details, but I vividly remember the play they put on to tell us the story. It could be very interesting to do more research on what other stories have happened on the island. Especially, since Kuahi is not as touristy compared to Maui and the Big Island I think there will be a lot of stories.
